Dead Animal Ditch (Birmingham, AL)
Discovered sometime in the summer of 2005, this section of ditch is a small part of a larger drainage system that winds through one of the more prestigious neighborhoods in the Hwy 280 area, Brook Highland. It’s discovery began as a group of skaters originally met and skated the section closest to the subdivision’s pool and tennis park area. Following the ditch and exploring for “better” sections to skate, this group soon discovered an area they found most skateable. Along the way, they had passed several carcasses of animals that apparently drowned or found their demise some other way and ended up collected in the ditch. Due to this, it was Tom Bagby that christened the name “Dead Animal Ditch”, and it stuck ever since.
